Baking with Maya

On Sunday night, Maya and I got ready for work by making our lunches for the week. Maya made a really yummy looking couscous concoction, and I made a pasta salad from this recipe. I really love Food Network online because they have videos to go along with a lot of the recipes, and they are all super easy. If I can handle it, then anyone can. My pasta salad was pretty good, but I want to find something that is a little more flavorful. I don't love pasta enough to let it be the focus of the dish.

My "Roasted-Pepper Pasta Salad"

Looks pretty legit, right?

In between all of the lunch preparations, Maya and I baked together! Our kitchen is pretty large, so we had plenty of room to make our recipes and chat while we did everything. I went to Target that morning and got us some extra supplies since we didn't have some necessary equipment like spatulas and cutting boards (Do I ask too much of a "fully furnished" apartment?).

Maya made Zucchini Bread muffins, and they were delicious! I had never tasted it before, so I didn't really know what to expect. You know how the first time you hear about carrot cake, you think it must be really weird because it's a cake made from a vegetable? Well, that's the way Zucchini Bread is too! It seems like it would be strange, but it's actually amazing! It's very cinnamon-y, and the flavor is very light. I think I like it better than banana bread.

While Maya was making her muffins, I tried this recipe for Brownies. I was in the mood for something really moist and chocolate-y, so these were initially a disappointment. I clearly left them in too long, so the edges were a bit too crispy, but the flavor was also really strange. They were really salty which threw me off, but we decided that we liked them.

Like the plates? They came with this snazzy apartment.

Sometimes I try to be cool like Kelda. Then this happens.

Baking together was fun, so we're thinking of taking on a larger project together next weekend. Monkey bread, anyone?
