Learning to Cook

So one of my goals this summer is to learn how to cook. Since I don't have any real responsibilities when I get home every night, it seems like the perfect time to figure it out.

Last week was my first week of work, so I made really simple things that didn't even require a recipe like pasta with store-bought sauce and chicken with roasted potatoes.

My pasta and meat sauce. So easy.

But this week I want to be a little more experimental with my cooking. On Sunday morning, I got up early and planned out all of my meals for the week so that I would have a good grocery list. Last night I decided to try this recipe for Hasselback potatoes. Mine were not so good - I didn't make small enough slices, and I took them out too early. I have quickly learned that my favorite food to eat - potatoes - takes forever to cook. I'm hungry when I get home, so I don't have time to be waiting for potatoes.

Hasselback potatoes and barbeque chicken tenders.

At least the potatoes look cool?

I'm trying a rice recipe tomorrow, so hopefully that won't be such a disaster.

  1. I kept meaning to try making those all year, but I never got around to it! I personally like how long it takes to cook potatoes, but if you want a baked potato in a hurry, all you have to do is stick a fork in it a few times and pop it in the microwave for 7-8 minutes. Add sour cream, instant happiness!
