Girls Night

My friend Cindy and her adorable kids visited me in Racine yesterday. We went to Red Onion Cafe to get breakfast for lunch since Out of the Pan was closed (surprise surprise). Nora didn't enjoy her oatmeal because she and I have the same refined palate (we would both prefer Quaker instant oatmeal), but the rest of us enjoyed our meals. Cindy and I had a great time catching up, and I wish I had been able to spend more time with them.

Nicest part of this place is the exterior.
Last night, Maya and I decided to go out to dinner at DeRango's because we were in a pizza mood and hadn't been there yet. The restaurant is across the street from Infusino's, and the decor is pretty similar. By which I mean janky as you'd ever believe. I took pictures for your viewing pleasure.

So old school.
These booths move when you move (just like that).
Don't you love this wood paneling? So classy.
There was no clear indication of where to go or what to do, so we just sat down and waited for someone to notice us. Maya and I split an Italian salad and pepperoni pizza. The salad dressing was "creamy Italian", but it inexplicably tasted like honey mustard. The pizza was pretty good, but I liked De Pizza Chef better. The crust here just wasn't as crispy as I had hoped for, and I'm a fan of pizza cut into pie slices rather than squares. Unless it's from Donatos, in which case I wouldn't have it any other way.

Milwaukee makes good root beer.
Avoid the mushrooms that come with this salad.
We were too hungry to wait for the picture again.
The pizza was pretty good, and they give you grated cheese and red pepper flakes in little plastic cups (perfectly sized to bring home with the leftovers). However, we discovered gum on the pizza pan when we were putting the pizza away, so we were pretty sketched out. Recording the experience here will not assist in blocking it from our memories, but I thought I should share.

Cheapest meal yet. Also sketchiest meal.
On our way home, we stopped by CVS and picked up supplies for our movie. Joe left us some vanilla ice cream when he was moving out, and we couldn't really wrap our heads around the concept of plain ice cream, so we invested in some toppings. We nearly spent more on this candy than we did on our dinner. Ridiculous, I know, but it made movie night more fun.

Totally normal behavior.
