Ode to Joe

So I started this blog thinking that it would be about Racine, hence the title. Instead, it's turned out to be more about the people I meet and the experiences I have while I'm here. Since this became a blog about my friends, Joe told me to write a post about him. Is it weird that I'm writing a post all about Joe? Yes, it definitely is. But I'm going to do it anyways.

Joe is one of the most considerate people I have ever met. Possibly the most considerate. Yesterday, he went to the store to buy a football magazine in preparation for the fantasy draft, and he bought me a copy of the new People magazine with Kim Kardashian on the cover. Isn't that the nicest? My mom's reaction: "Oh my gosh! Wasn't he embarrassed? I bet he'd buy you tampons. He's the best."

Joe seems to have really cool friends, and I can't wait to meet all of them when I visit Madison with Mara this year. Joe always has interesting stories to share about growing up. Ask him about his license plate to learn some fun facts about bird watching. He loves a good pun, and he's really good at understated jokes. You really have to pay attention to get them sometimes, but they are so worth that extra effort. And he gets a huge grin when you get it.

Joe and I definitely have the same sense of humor. Based on his recommendation, I wasted at least two hours on Wednesday night watching Daniel Tosh stand up videos on YouTube. And we both enjoy Tucker Max stories because the man is entertaining. He's horrible, and I hope never to meet him, but he tells a good story.

Joe agrees that Burn Notice is the worst show on TV, and he got me to start watching Jersey Shore. Actually, Joe really appreciates all the award-winning programs that MTV has to offer. He knows all the characters from The Hills and has an opinion about everyone on Teen Mom. He also watches the Kardashians with me and Maya on Sunday nights. We're going to miss having him with us for the one hour Bora Bora episode this week!

Despite all his charm, Joe is flawed. His taste in music is weird. I went through his iTunes yesterday, and we literally do not have a single song in common. It's quite unbelievable. I'm definitely into anything popular, and he likes alternative music. We played one of his CDs on repeat during our drive to Chicago, so Pumped Up Kicks has grown on me, but I'm not a fan of most of his choices. Even though our taste in music differs so much, we are still able to meet in the middle with 94.5FM. I've had it as preset number four all summer, but we discovered the true wonder of Lake FM on our drive back from Zach's wedding when they played John Mellencamp, Barenaked Ladies, and Sheryl Crow as we were cruising on the highway. At least we agree on the classics.

My favorite thing about Joe is that he's such a good friend to me. He told Sierra that he's proud of me this summer, which is probably the sweetest thing I've ever heard. He didn't even know me before, but he knows that I've grown up a lot this summer and embraced new experiences, and it means a lot to me that he recognizes it. I know he thinks I'm crazy, so I'm really glad we became such good friends.

Now that I've gushed about him, I should mention that Joe is single. Ladies, I will hook you up. It is my belief that Joe would be the best boyfriend in the world, and I'm pretty sure every female intern would agree with me. One day (many years from now), he's going to marry someone really lovely, and they will have adorable babies. I've already guaranteed my invitation to the wedding, and Joe promised to put me on the Christmas card list, so the future of our friendship is secure. Mission accomplished.
