In speaking about Stedman, Oprah said that she thought he was aptly named because he was a steadying influence in her life. She said that no matter what happened, he was there as a grounding force, a man she could always count on to remain by her side. I thought that was a lovely sentiment and worth remembering. Isn’t that what we all look for in our life companions?
Speaking of life companions, Zach got married on Friday, and a group of us attended the reception Friday night. Maya, Joe, and I picked up Jessica from her house in Franklin and drove the two hours to Brownsville for the reception. We met up with Hao, Yashpal, Lynn, and Rebecca at the reception, and we had so much fun. It was really sweet of Zach to invite us, and he and Sonja looked incredibly happy. They’re a lovely couple, and we were happy to be part of their special day. We danced the night away to all the wedding favorites: Baby Got Back (Jessica knows every word), Macarena (I know every word), and Cupid Shuffle (I love songs with lyrics explaining the dance).

Not my kind of boat, but it will do.
On Saturday, Maya and I went to the beach with Joe and his friend Mike. I had no idea that Racine had such a nice beach; we’ve been missing out this entire summer. It stormed that morning, but the weather was perfect that afternoon. Absolutely beautiful.

Apparently, no one else in Racine knows about this beach either.
That night, we hit the town to show Mike all that Racine has to offer. By which I mean we visited all three offerings, got pizza from DePizza Chef, and went home. DePizza Chef is small and looks really janky and Dan said it was good, so I was a bit suspicious. The pizza was absolutely delicious, but I was pretty hungry, so I’m going to try it again some night this week to confirm.
Tell me that doesn't look ghetto. But it's so good!
After a drive to and from Chicago on Sunday, I was craving a burger and milkshake. Maya, Joe, and I went to Georgie Porgie’s, which is decorated like a “treefort” – cooler than a treehouse, duh. The burger and chocolate shake were perfect, but the onion rings were not worth it. I don’t have much time left in this wonderful town, but Maya’s chipotle chicken sandwich looked really good, so I would like to return.
Maya made pasta sauce with red peppers, zucchini, onions, and ground beef with angel hair pasta for dinner on Monday night, and she was kind enough to share with me. It was delicious. I’m usually really lazy when it comes to making my own pasta sauce, and I never think to put in anything more than meat, but I have learned my lesson. The zucchini and red pepper made it so much better than usual.
